Honest Comparison

RosterMates vs Rosterit

Both are New Zealand-built rostering tools an Australian search might surface — but they serve Australia very differently. Rosterit is quote-priced with an NZ-centric payroll list and no Xero Payroll integration; RosterMates publishes its price and ships a dedicated Australian rule set. Here's the honest side-by-side.

Rosterit features and pricing information from rosterit.co.nz public pages and Capterra's third-party listing as of 5 July 2026. Rosterit does not publish prices on its own website; the US$22.50/month entry-tier figure comes from Capterra and its currency and accuracy are unverified. "Not advertised" means the feature is not evidenced on Rosterit's public pages — it may exist. Rosterit is a trademark of its owner. RosterMates pricing is currently billed in NZD while Australian billing is finalised. Always confirm current pricing and features with each vendor.

Where each tool genuinely wins

Rosterit is a legitimate, established tool — just one whose centre of gravity is New Zealand. Here's the fair read for an Australian operation.

Choose Rosterit if…

  • SMS notifications are a hard requirement — Rosterit sends email, push and SMS; RosterMates doesn't do SMS
  • Your payroll is MYOB and a quote-based sales process doesn't bother you
  • You operate on both sides of the Tasman with NZ payroll systems like IMS or ACE in the mix

Choose RosterMates if…

  • You want to see the price before you talk to anyone — ours is published, flat, and includes everything
  • Your payroll runs on Xero — Rosterit's own site says it doesn't integrate with Xero Payroll; we export payroll-ready Xero files
  • You want Australian leave types and state public holiday calendars built into the roster
  • Staff expect real iOS and Android apps with push notifications, not a mobile website
  • You want AI auto-rostering, events with shift bidding, custom forms and messaging — included, not "contact us"

Our verdict

Rosterit is an established Auckland-built tool with some genuine strengths — facial recognition clock-in, SMS notifications, and a long list of payroll exports. The catch for an Australian buyer is that the list is the wrong list: apart from MYOB, it's New Zealand payroll systems, and Rosterit's own site states there's no Xero Payroll integration — a hard blocker for a large share of Australian small businesses. Add quote-only pricing with time and attendance in a separate tier, and a mobile web app where staff expect real apps, and the fit narrows quickly.

RosterMates is the trans-Tasman tool actually aimed at Australia: published flat pricing (currently NZ$8 per employee, billed in NZD while Australian billing is finalised), Australian leave types and state holiday calendars, native iOS and Android apps, AI auto-rostering, events with bidding, forms and messaging — and payroll-ready exports for Xero, MYOB, KeyPay and Employment Hero. With free onboarding done for you and a 30-day trial, you can see the whole platform working on your roster before spending a dollar.

RosterMates vs Rosterit FAQs

Common questions from Australian teams comparing the two.

No. As of July 2026, rosterit.co.nz lists three tiers — Simple Scheduling, Time & Attendance, and Customised Solutions — with no prices shown; you have to email for a quote. Capterra's third-party listing shows a starting price of US$22.50 per month for up to 15 users, but the currency and current accuracy of that figure are unverified. RosterMates publishes its full price on its website: a flat NZ$8 per employee per month (currently billed in NZD while Australian billing is finalised), everything included.
Rosterit is an Auckland-based New Zealand product, and its payroll export list reads that way: iPayroll, MYOB, Smartly, IMS Payroll, ACE Payroll and Crystal Payroll — of which only MYOB is a name most Australian payrolls run on. Its own site also states it does not integrate with Xero Payroll. RosterMates is New Zealand-built too, but serves Australia deliberately: state and territory public holiday calendars, Australian leave types, and payroll-ready exports for Xero, MYOB, KeyPay (Employment Hero Payroll) and Employment Hero.
No — Rosterit's own website explicitly states it does not integrate with Xero Payroll. Given how much of Australian small-business payroll runs through Xero, that's a hard blocker for many teams. RosterMates exports payroll-ready timesheet files for Xero, alongside MYOB, KeyPay (Employment Hero Payroll) and Employment Hero.
No — Rosterit runs as a mobile web app rather than app-store apps. RosterMates has native iOS and Android apps with push notifications, GPS clock-in with geofencing, leave requests, shift swaps, messaging and a full manager experience. One point in Rosterit's favour: it sends SMS notifications, which RosterMates doesn't — we use push and email instead, which arrive instantly at no per-message cost.
Based on each company's public pages as of July 2026: AI auto-rostering, native iOS and Android apps, event staffing with capacity-based shift bidding and waitlists, custom digital forms with an AI builder, group messaging with channels and announcements, geofencing on clock-in, and free done-for-you onboarding. Rosterit counters with SMS notifications and facial recognition clock-in of its own. Where Rosterit doesn't advertise a feature we say "not advertised" rather than "no" — their public pages are the only evidence available.
Yes — and you won't do it alone. Free onboarding is done for you: we import your staff, build your roster templates and train your managers, and our team sets up complex rosters, events and automations at no charge. RosterMates is month to month with no lock-in, and the 30-day free trial needs no credit card — so you can run it alongside Rosterit and compare before committing.
