100% New Zealand Owned & Operated

Built in New Zealand,
shaped by the teams that use it

RosterMates started in 2023 inside one Kiwi aged-care facility. Today it runs rosters, time clocks, leave and IRD-approved payroll for shift-based businesses across New Zealand — and thousands of Kiwis are rostered on it every day.

Our Story

From one aged-care village to workplaces across New Zealand

RosterMates began in 2023 with a single client: a large, independently owned retirement village and aged-care facility here in New Zealand. We were a team of software engineers, and rather than design rostering software in isolation, we built it on the floor — alongside the nurses, caregivers and managers who would live with it every day. Their expertise and requirements shaped the product, feature by feature.

For the first year, that was our entire focus. We funded the build ourselves from our earlier software work — no outside investors — and in 2024 we launched to more aged-care providers.

The platform has grown the same way ever since: every new customer stretches it further, and every feature we add benefits everyone. Rostering grew into time clocks and kiosks, timesheets, leave, messaging and event staffing. We connected the NZ payroll ecosystem — Xero, PayHero, Crystal Payroll, iPayroll and Smartly — and in 2026 became an IRD-approved payroll provider ourselves.

Along the way, RosterMate became RosterMates — a small name change for a growing company. Same team, same product, same focus on New Zealand workplaces.

The Journey So Far
Three years, built one customer at a time

No investors, no shortcuts — just a product that grew with the businesses using it.

2023

Founded with our first client

A team of software engineers takes on a large, independently owned NZ retirement village and aged-care facility — and builds RosterMate alongside their team, self-funded from earlier software work.

2024

Launch

After a year of heads-down building, the platform opens up to more aged-care providers across New Zealand.

2024–26

Growing with our customers

New industries bring new requirements: time clocks and kiosks, the employee app, AI rostering, event staffing, and payroll exports to Xero, PayHero, Crystal, iPayroll and Smartly.

2026

IRD-approved payroll — and a new name

RosterMate becomes RosterMates, and an IRD-approved payroll provider: roster to filed payday return, in one system.

Today

Thousands of Kiwis, rostered daily

Serving shift, event and venue-based businesses in nearly every industry across New Zealand — from aged care and hospitality to retail, manufacturing, construction and security.

Leadership
Meet the founders

RosterMates is still run by its founders — when you book a demo or message support, you're usually talking to one of the people who built the platform.

Yon van Raders

Co-Founder & CEO

Yon brings a deep technical foundation and a systems-first approach to product leadership. Years of delivering custom software across New Zealand — from healthcare and hospitality to logistics and retail — shaped RosterMates' product philosophy: powerful functionality that doesn't need a consultant to configure or a manual to operate. As CEO, he leads product strategy and commercial direction.

Guy van Raders

Co-Founder & CTO

Guy is the engineering force behind the platform's architecture, prioritising reliability, scalability and long-term maintainability — software that works today and grows with the businesses that depend on it. With a background in full-stack development and enterprise systems, he leads all technical decisions and the platform's continuous development.

How We Work
Our principles

Operational simplicity

Workforce software should reduce complexity, not add to it. RosterMates is designed to be intuitive from day one — minimal training, maximum time back for managers and staff.

Customer-led development

It's how the product was born, and how it still grows: the roadmap is shaped by the businesses using it. Every feature answers a genuine operational need — not a hypothetical one.

Long-term partnership

We measure success by customer outcomes, not contract length. Setup and training are always free, there are no lock-in contracts, and support comes from the team that builds the product.

New Zealand. The product is designed, built and supported here, and it's built around NZ employment specifics — the Holidays Act, IRD payday filing, and the payroll systems Kiwi businesses actually run: Xero, PayHero, Crystal Payroll, iPayroll and Smartly.
Yes — RosterMates became IRD-approved payroll software in 2026. PAYE, student loan and ESCT are calculated for you, and Employment Information (payday filing) returns are submitted to Inland Revenue directly from the platform. Prefer your current payroll? Keep it — approved hours export to Xero, PayHero, Crystal, iPayroll and Smartly. See the payroll page for details.
A flat $8 NZD per employee per month (excluding GST), with a Casual Workforce plan that counts only the employees actually rostered each month. Every plan starts with a free 30-day trial — no credit card, no lock-in contracts, and setup and training are free. Full details on the pricing page.
Free setup and training with every account: onboarding calls, roster templates built for you, hands-on help through your early pay runs, and unlimited NZ-based support afterwards — from the same team that builds the product.
